Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Koshulynskyi jointly with people’s deputies of Ukraine Iryna Farion, Andriy Mokhnyk and Yuriy Mykhalchyshyn visited National Parliamentary Library of Ukraine on Tuesday. 

 

People’s deputies of Ukraine got acquainted with the history of the library that has actively been working for almost 150 years. As is known, the National Parliamentary Library is in charge of state librarian system and is a methodical and coordinating center on the issues of librarianship, bibliography, and record management. Research workers are involved in developing state policy in the sphere of librarianship, as well as its implementation.

 

Seeing over library halls and communicating with administration and personnel of the Parliamentary Library, Ruslan Koshulynskyi noted that the main task of the Ukrainian library lies not in mere providing access to information, but in preserving culture and spiritual values of Ukrainian people. He stressed that the “the living book” cannot be replaced by anything even now, in the era of information technology.  

 

Speaking on the problems Ukrainian libraries and the National Parliamentary Library face now, personnel drew attention to the existing urgent problem of lack of money in the State Budget of Ukraine for 2013 to periodicals subscription for libraries, subject to the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, including the National Parliamentary Library. Ruslan Koshulynskyi called this situation intolerable and stressed that the Verkhovna Rada should get settling of the problem under special control.  

 

Apart from this, great attention was attached to the issue of refining Ukrainian legislation in the part of copyright. 

 

At the end, the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada R.Koshulynslyi and the people’s deputies promised that such a visit to the National Library is not the last and to confirm their words they got registered and received library cards.
